Kevin Cole Costin joined the A.R.T. Board of Trustees in January 2011. Mr. Costin, who graduated in 1990, is the first alumnus of the A.R.T. Institute for Advanced Theater Training at Harvard University to take on a role as a Board member since the founding of the Institute in 1988. He graduated from Harvard College in 1988 where he studied Fine Arts, followed by two years at the A.R.T. Institute. In 1999, he received an MSW degree from Columbia University.
He was the Executive Director of ComALERT (Community and Law Enforcement Resources Together), the nation's first prosecutor-sponsored prisoner reentry program that he developed while employed at the Kings Count District Attorney's Office (Brooklyn) from 2000 to 2006. He is presently the Executive Director of Counseling Service of the Eastern District of New York (CSEDNY), a New York State-licensed mental health and substance abuse treatment agency with multiple sites in New York City and Long Island. CSEDNY specializes in working with formerly incarcerated and court-involved individuals and their families, and the agency was incorporated in 1973 as the nation's oldest federally funded alternative to incarceration counseling and treatment program. In addition to his work with A.R.T., Costin is also a Board member of the New York City Anti-Violence Project (AVP), CorbinDances, and he is a member of a Columbia University School of Social Work Advisory Committee.
