Allegra Libonati

Allegra Libonati is currently the Artistic Associate at the American Repertory Theater.  She is the Resident Director for The Donkey Show, Associate Director for Prometheus Bound, and Assistant Director for Death and the Powers: The Robot's Opera, Best of Both Worlds, and the Tony Award winning revival of Hair on Broadway.  At Harvard University she curates The Chairs Revue, an original festival of theater and happenings in Harvard Yard.  At OBERON she directed the food/performance event Once In Hell: Dante's Inferno in 10 Dinner Courses and Matchmaker, Matchmaker, I'm Willing to Settle: A Musical Guide to Internet Dating which will be heading to NYMF this fall.  She directs outdoor musicals and Shakespeare productions at the Summer Theater of New Canaan, including Carousel, Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet, Taming of the Shrew, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and H4 (an original adaptation of Henry IV, Parts 1 and 2).  This spring H4 was produced by Resonance Ensemble on Theater Row, NYC.  Further productions include The Island,  Life's a Dream, The Just Assassins, Cinderella Waltz, Accidental Death of an Anarchist, and The Illusion. A lover of street theater, she is an initiator of RAK (Random Actors of Kindness) and the A.R.T. Instigators (spreading spontaneous moments of joy).  In Arezzo, Italy, she studied Commedia Dell’Arte performance at the Accademia Dell’Arte and is a graduate of NYU, Tisch School of the Arts.  She holds an MFA in directing from Carnegie Mellon University.
