Musician Ulzhan Baibussynova (Epic Singer in The Children of Herakles) was born in Kazakhstan, and performs as a jyraou (an epic singer/instrumentalist). One of the disciples of the first female jyraou interpreter, Chamchat Toulepova, she pursued her studies at the Conservatory of Almaty, where she created a thesis about the philosophy of the jyraou. She currently teaches the dombra (a two-stringed lute) and epic chant in Almaty.
