Jim Spencer (A.R.T./MXAT Institute class of 2001) is currently performing and teaching in the Boston area. Most recently, he appeared in The Man Who with the Nora Theatre, directed by Institute graduate Wesley Savick. In the Boston area, he has also appeared as Haemon/Chorus in the Nora's production of Richard McElvain's contemporary adaptation of Antigone. He has also appeared in the SpeakEasy Stage production of Our Lady of 121st St., Commonwealth Shakespeare (Henry V), Zeitgeist Stage (Circle), Underground Railway Theater (How Do You Spell Hope?), and Coyote Theater (American Notes). Over the past two years he has reprised the role of Malcolm X in The Meeting at the Palace Theater of Manchester, NH. He has also made appearances in the Wang Center's American Voices series of readings. He received an I.R.N.E. award nomination for his work in the ACT Roxbury production of City Preacher. As a student, Jim appeared on the A.R.T. mainstage in Antigone (Chorus) and Richard II (Green). Before coming to Boston, Jim toured nationally with the Shenandoah Shakespeare Express and performed in Chicago. He has taught on faculties of College of the Holy Cross, Emmanuel College, and Bristol Community College.
