Check out this segment on The Donkey Show from WGBH:
From its six-year run in New York City to a world tour from London to Seoul, the celebrated smash hit The Donkey Show now takes Boston by storm, bringing you the ultimate disco experience—a crazy circus of mirror balls and feathered divas, of roller skaters and hustle queens. Come party on the dance floor to all the 70s disco hits you know by heart as the show unfolds around you.
The Donkey Show tells the story of A Midsummer Night’s Dream through the great 70s anthems, including “We are Family,” “I Love the Nightlife,” “Car Wash,” “Ring My Bell,” and “Last Dance.” The enchanted forest of Shakespeare’s classic comedy becomes the glittered world of retro disco as the lovers escape from their real lives to experience a night of dream, abandon, and fantasy.
A.R.T.’s OBERON houses this magical romp. Join the party under the disco ball. After the show, the party continues into the night so you can live out your own fantasy of disco fever!

Shakespeare’s Midsummer
Shakespeare’s Midsummer night’s dream taken in a disco style has very much captivated audiences all around the world. They are now famous not only in New York City but their reputation extends from London to even Seoul and I am very much excited to know that they are on their way to my home, Boston. Certainly Diane Paulus brings in the feeling of enjoying the Shakespeare’s drama in a different era with the help of Discos. Final Four Tickets | Restaurant Supply| Tonneau Cover

A fabulous show!! This was a lot of fun to watch! There's a couple on the dance floor and I can't tell if they work for the show or not, but they are phenomenal (guy with a white suit and woman with a big fro) - the entire show is a blast to watch!
Thank you for the great Shakespeare season!
I'm an 8-yr subscriber to the ART and have been going to productions for almost 15 years. Thank you for breaking out of the old box and staging some wonderfully uplifting and interactive shows in your Shakespeare festival! This is only the 2nd season that I've bought tickets to see ART productions more than one time (Donkey Show 3 times, Sleep No More 6 times :-). Loving the excitement, the thought provoking performances and the new ideas about theater. Keep it up!
help!
My school wants to take a bunch of seniors to the play who are active in the theatre. I am 17 and a half, and we were not sure if i would be able to go if my director/ teacher were with me or if my parents could write permission? I am desperate! I want to see this so badly and not be left out and my theatre director acknowledged that I am definitely mature enough and hopes that I can go! is there anything I can do?!?!?! THANKS
Not much there
I was deeply disappointed in the Donkey Show. There just isn't much to it. No relationship to A Midsummer Nights Dream, just a medley of disco hits tied together with the very slimmest hint of a story. Performers are cute and energetic but otherwise unexceptional. Intellectual barren and worse, boring. Not worthy of the A.R.T. and its proud heritage of challenging, interesting productions.
The Donkey Show
Put bluntly, this show is a travesty (both figuratively and literally). The idea is paper thin and the novelty wears off before you even enter the theater. We subscribed this year and for the privilege we have been a haunted house ("Sleep No More") and a camp disco ("The Donkey Show"). "Pushing the boundaries of theater" is all well and good -- but respecting them in some measure is also wise. What are we left with when we leave a play like "The Donkey Show" besides some half-baked allusions to and connections with the dregs of popular culture? Maybe some people enjoy themselves, but is the experience that much different from a club downtown? Ultimately, this is not how you develop a healthy theater or audience.

Experience total immersion in dance, disco music, high tech lighting, and interacting with the "Club Oberon" staff all driven by Shakespeare’s "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" being played out in and amongst the audience by sleekly clad dancers/actors. A vibrant, well thought out, production that leaves you in a state of awe!!

Could my husband and I bring our seventeen and a half year-old daughter? We want to come with older nephews and other relatives. Hate to leave her out or not come.
